About The Artist
Karen Savary
Born in Florida into a military family, the first ten or eleven years of her life were spent near military bases in various parts of the United States including California, Hawaii, and New York City. The family settled in the Mid-Hudson Valley of New York State where she attended junior and senior high school. She was married soon after high school, had three children, and moved between New York and California a couple of times. She entered the University of California, San Diego and graduated magna cum laude with a BA in Visual Arts/Studio in 1982. The necessity for work precluded further education at that time and she worked as a book designer, technical illustrator, and cartographer for various trade publishers in San Diego, and then in New York City. Moving from Manhattan to rural New Hampshire in 1990, she continued book design on a freelance basis and made a more concerted move toward studio work. She participated in the local and regional art community showing in numerous venues from 1992 to 2002. In 2002, she returned to academic study and received a doctorate in Clinical Psychology in 2007, from Antioch University, New England. Despite the presence of other obligations and demands she continued her studio work. She returned to southern California in October 2015. She is now settled in New Mexico.
